The basics

The Theme

You're invited to create a model for one of the heroes or villains of the Second War for Armageddon – though which is which will depend on your point of view!

This is your opportunity to create your own take on one (or more) of the famous warriors and personalities of the Second War for Armageddon. These can be:

• Your own Armageddon-themed characters 
• Characters mentioned
• Your own interpretation of a character that already has a model

The Second War for Armageddon is a sprawling conflict, so the world is your (highly-polluted) oyster. A few ideas are listed below if you'd like something to spark your imagination; but I encourage you to regard creativity as key. You might like to bring to life:

Orks

• The Warboss (or other leading light) of the Warband you're building
• Perhaps a take on someone else's Warboss, inspired by the articles on the blog
• One of Ghazkghkull's Counsill of Clan-bosses (touched on in the book Ghazkhkull: Prophet of the Waaagh)
• Ugrak (Goffs)
• Speedboss Shazfrag (Evil Suns)
• Mega-Admiral Snazdakka (Bad Moons)
• Straturgum (Blood Axes)
• Finds-Bullets-He-Has-Not-Lost (Deathskulls)
• Grudbolg (Snakebites)
• Ghazghkull Thraka himself, of course!
• Mad Dok Grotsnik
• Snikrot of da Red Skull Kommandos

Steel Legion

• The Commanding officer of your Steel Legion Army Group
• General Zamael Hands of the Fighting First
• General Vladimer Nikita Kurov, overall commander of the Steel Legion
• The charismatic but flawed Marshal Durchdenwald
• General Leichenberg of the 3rd Army Group (and the 1st Tank Division)
• The paranoid General Marius Marlen of the 4th Army Group
• Generals Pyrol and Arman of the 6th Army Group
• General Sorocold of the 12th Army Group

Others

• The infamous Planetary Governor, Herman Von Strab
• The man, the legend Commissar Yarrick
• One of the Hive Governors, such as:

Don't worry about treading on someone else's toes – multiple different interpretations of the same character are encouraged, as it'll allow me to better illustrate new articles with biographies and histories of the characters. The more I have from you, the more you'll get to read!

What do I need to do?

Once you have picked a character, you need to build and paint him, her or it up. There is no arbitrary standard of quality – beyond you feeling you've done your best work. 

The key is that the model is themed to some point in the 2nd War for Armageddon. There's a timeline here for you to browse. How you interpret this is entirely up to you. 

Note that the model does not have to be converted – though I'd suggest that this is a great way to help put your personal spin on a character, or show a slightly different interpretation than GW's studio version. As a couple of prompts:

• A Ghazghkull that nods more towards his original 2nd edition model than the current version.
• Your take on a pre-Black Rage Captain Tycho
• Mad Doc Grotsnik in his 'sergery'.
• Sebastian Yarrick in his personal study.
• A recreation or interpretation of one of GW's awesome artworks.

Other than the theme, it's up to you – you can do a single model or an entire diorama – whatever you fancy.

Once you've got your model complete, you can enter by:

• Posting to Instagram and using the hashtag #ForYarrick and/or #WaaGhazghkull
• Posting to the +Death of a Rubricist+ Facebook group

How long have I got?

The challenge runs from December 8th 2023 until January 31st 2024.

Feel free to post WIPs as you go using the #ashesofarmageddon #ForYarrick and/or #WaaGhazghkull tag(s) – and please do share to let as many people as possible get involved.

...and if you are really stuck on who or what to create, then I'd love as many takes on Ghazghkull, Herman Von Strab, Commander Dante and Commissar Yarrick as possible.
